Dr. Sarah ShaBazz-Ugwumba holds a PhD in Education with emphasis in Special Education from Walden University, which she earned in 2019. With an extensive teaching background across various academic levels, spanning from kindergarten to Master’s degree programs, she has accrued over two decades of instructional experience.
Before her remarkable 21-year tenure as a resource specialist in elementary education, Dr. ShaBazz spent four years teaching high school. Her influence transcends the classroom through roles as an adjunct professor at esteemed institutions like Pacific Oaks College and Cal State San Bernardino. She is currently a full-time professor of Child Development at Barstow Community College.
Committed to holistic education, Dr. ShaBazz actively contributes to her community. Coaching an elementary girls' basketball team to five consecutive victories and initiating an after-school cheerleading program for 55 girls are among her notable achievements.
Her leadership includes roles as president of Soroptimist International Victor Valley and the High Desert Section-National Council of Negro Women, where she supports women, families, and provide scholarships to high school girls. Dr. Shabazz concluded her tenure at her tutoring company spanning 23 years to establish a Doula service aimed at providing comprehensive support to expectant mothers during childbirth.
She also mentors young girls in the Little Miss African American Scholarship pageant, nurturing self-confidence and achievement. As a member of the esteemed Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, she is committed to providing service to all mankind.
Balancing her professional and personal roles, Dr. ShaBazz is a wife, mother to 11 children and 17 grandchildren. As an accomplished author with seven published books, Dr. ShaBazz's literary contributions extend to publishing for others, sharing her expertise to help fellow authors achieve their aspirations. As a recent graduate of the Emerge California program, Dr. ShaBazz has decided to pursue a career in public service. Stay tuned for her campaign announcement.
